Pmesh has 3 modes of operation :
- Friendly
- Secure
- Solo.
Friendly :
Mesh networking - will connect to any available mesh in the area.
User access - will allow any user to connect. (all users have ‘guest’ accounts, effectively)
Device Access - will allow any device to connect.
Network Access - Will connect to any available upstream network that’s open.
Common File Share - will allow any user to read/write to the CFS, barring files that have been flagged.
Notes - friendly mode is primarily the case when the device is being used as temporary infrastructure
in an open environment, such as casual sharing at a convention, a core router for free wifi at
a small business, that sort of thing.
Secure
Mesh Networking - Will only connect to known and trusted mesh networks.
User Access - will only allow users who have trusted credentials (only the Owner, and users with registered accounts)
Device Access - Will only allow known devices to connect.
Network Access - will only connect to known and approved upstream channels.
Common File Share - will only allow logged on users to read/write files that have been specifically marked as ‘shared’.
Notes - Secure mode is the mode which the pmesh will probably function most of the time. I suggest we invest most of our resources in this branch.
Solo
Mesh Networking - Does not connect to any detected mesh network.
User Access - only allows Owner access.
Device Access - will only allow whitelisted devices to connect.
Network Access - will only connect to known and approved upstream channels.
Common File Share - only works for Owner, and only from Owner device to Owner device.
Notes - I’m not sure why I wanted this mode, but some part of my brain is insisting it’s important.
